Counseling Groups Counseling Groups are small groups of students from the same grade level. These children are chosen to be part of a group depending on the topic. Students may sign up for a specific group, teachers, administrators, or parents may refer students. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
New Students
Bounce Back (resilience skills)
Leadership
Feelings Managements (especially strong feeling such as Anger & frustration)
Anxiety
Mindset
Peer Helping
Groups usually meet over lunchtime and eat in the counselor’s office. Groups will not meet during an instructional time. Some groups may meet during ‘team time’ or a review time. Parents or Guardians will be informed when their child is invited to participate in a group through parent permission letter. Confidentiality is stressed at our first meeting. Small Group Counseling Guidelines 1. All participants observe confidentiality. a. Counselor b. Student Group Members 2. Everyone will be an active listener. 3. Everyone has an opportunity to participate and share. 4. All participants will work at using positive language. 5. All participants will treat each other with respect.
