I hold small groups focusing on social skills for students: Friendship & Social Skills Group Rationale of Group: Students need the ability to get along with others to build positive relationships. Positive social skills are needed for group success. Positive and negative social skills are learned through interactions with others. Positive social skills can be taught and developed with instruction, modeling, practice, communication and reinforcement. Lessons: Knowing myself first:
Appreciate myself and build confidence in what I have to offer
Awareness of my feelings by identifying body cues and responding to intense feelings
Realizing I’m in charge of my thinking and I can think positive thoughts (especially with tough situations)
Build strategies for responsible behavior
Respecting and valuing all people especially those that are different from me
Reaching out to other
Working with Others:
Awareness of my body language when connecting with others
Finding common interests to network with others
Strategies for starting conversations
Ways to Introduce yourself to others
Respecting others by balanced shared conversations
